Hex-PLA biodegradable polymer platform
Hex-PLA polymers are hydrophobically-modified polylactide biodegradable polymer suitable for a variety of drug delivery applications.
Hex-PLA polymers are viscous polymeric liquids suitable for injectable implantable use. In addition to fluid and resporation properties, Hex-PLA platform is distinguished by its highly hydrophobic and lipophilic nature (as compared to lactide glycolide materials). These unique characteristics give the Hex-PLA platform beneficial characteristics for drug solubility and extended release for parenteral administration.
Extended release from Hex-PLA liquid polymers
Drug can be dispersed or dissolved in liquid Hex-PLA. The in vitro release of such mixtures is shown below. Low initial release followed by extended release for 40 days is demonstrated.

Increased drug solubility from Hex-PLA micelles
Hex-PLA polymers form novel polymeric micelles. For example, PEG-Hex-PLA micelles are 50- to 150-nm in diameter and are useful for solubilizing highly hydrophobic drugs. As compared to other polymeric micelle technologies, PEG-Hex-PLA micelles are smaller.

For example, low-soluble Griseofulvin (a Biopharmaceutics Classification System Class II drug) is preferentially taken up into Hex-PLA polymeric micelles at considerably greater levels than in PEG-PLA micelles.
